It completely prepared me for this job. It was really a pleasure coming in there everyday. And I meant what I said, if things get really crazy there and you guys need some extra help I'll come in on the weekends and give you a hand.

one-of-a-kind program taught by professionals in the industry.

There is no better way to gain job-ready industry standard skills than to learn from people who are designing and developing web sites every day for hundreds of clients.

This Web Developer Diploma Program is perfect for students who want to get up-to-date, job ready skills in web design and systems development, using industry standard programs such as Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop, Illustrator, and -- best of all -- using Flash to build interaction and animation right into your web site, right down to user interaction and CMS systems.

Our design and development team and school are located next door to each other,so you will be able to interact with our team of designers and developers while they are at work. You will gain valuable experience with access to a real design studio.

This is a 100% instructor led program taught by our own web development team. Instructors are in the class with students at all times, either instructing or helping with assignments. Help can also be found from all members of the northStudio.com team, including interns, co-op students, faculty and other staff members throughout the buildings.  It's a busy place so there is always someone to help with whatever you are working on.

The course curriculum is continuous and each module flows perfectly into the next so that you understand the process and development techniques needed to build functional web sites for all types of clients, as we do every day.

Prerequisites:

No Previous computer skills are required, although we have found that students with demonstrated problem solving skills or who are solution-oriented will be more successful.

We strongly encourage students who have a current understanding of basic web site technology including (but not necessary all of):  HTML, XHTML, CSS, browsers, and keyboarding.

Student Project(s):

Design:

During the design component of the course you will design logos, web templates, manipulate  photos, create effects and full animations in Flash and more.

Open Source:

During the open source component of the Web Developer Diploma Program you will create a fully functioning web application with user logins, administration, management options for clients, photo galleries, and shopping carts to which you will add all of your design components

WebSite(s)

You will independently plan, design and complete your own Web Application that meets or exceeds the needs of you or your client. You will choose a web site that you would like to develop either for yourself, or for a client, potential client, or friend. Many students find web site contracts that pay during school.

Once completed, you will publish and then market your web site on the internet.

The project is the student's choice and may provide a benefit to themselves, for example an online portfolio or web site to sell their services.

Hosting will be provided by northStudio.com with an IP address for as long as you are a student. This includes an e-mail address and area to FTP or transfer files. The hosting account comes with all the extras including bulletin boards, guestbooks, password protected directories, email lists, error pages, scripts, chat rooms, SQL databases, PHP and more.

Optional Internship Work Experience Program (IWEP)

The Internship Program (IWEP) complements the Web Design Program and solidifies the classroom experience while providing a large portfolio for student use.

You work alongside us in a busy studio interacting with clients and eventually designing and building web sites from start to finish. While refining your skills working independently and with our design team, you may build as many as 15 full web sites depending on your aptitude, and may maintain as many as 200. Students will be encouraged to develop their own style and work methods, and will have plenty of time to use all the things they have learned in the classroom. We have many students requesting internships, however all VSBT students will be given priority in seat availability.
